Hungry, so you binge!

I have this problem, like tonight because all I ate today was a 200 calorie Balance bar, I binged and ate a cup of broccoli! 30 calories!! Not that I won't burn that off or anything, not that broccoli is bad for you, and not that broccoli doesn't actually support weight loss. Yes, broccoli is *amazing* for weight loss, you can eat a small amount and feel full and have tons of energy. Whatever, I am getting side tracked! Anyways!

Let us see here, right, binging, so I only had the nut. bar, 3 water bottles, and finally I gave in and had a cup of broccoli, I feel fat and disgusting for having not had the strength to turn it down! I do not deserve to feel hungry let alone binge like that! UGHHH

Sorry, so tips because I will be working on this as well, and need to know how y'all do on this if you try some of these tips!

  • Eat ice or gum when hungry, ice helps you to feel fuller, gum satisfies hunger as well, if you are lucky it will make you nauseated! Also water, water, water! Water fills you up and if you drink enough fast enough, you will be to nauseous to eat!
  • Understand that weight loss is hard! This is not easy, and it will never get easier, only you will get better! Work on control exercises one being if you have something you need to do but you want to put it off? Don't. Try fasting for a whole day, no food, only water, this builds control and you will learn to ignore hunger pains.
  • Make a list of all the “bad” foods that you crave and tend to binge on. Each day, pick one to take out of your diet that you absolutely, no matter what, cannot eat again. Take one off the list each day until there are no more bad foods you can have.

REMEMBER THIS: An occasional binge doesn't hurt in fact it’s quite beneficial if you have reached a plateau (stopped losing weight). Your body will think you have stopped starving yourself, and you will drop at least a pound overnight! Just don’t binge too regularly!

(back to tips!)

  • If you want to binge – distract yourself!  Try decorating or organizing something; when I pick a project to do, it distracts my mind for a while and keeps me from thinking about food.  Plus after I’m finished, I feel a great sense of accomplishment for what I just did.  Still want to binge?  Drink three big glasses of water.  Really chug ‘em and I guarantee you’ll feel too sick to even eat.
  • A way some people try to distract themselves is with counting activities. If they don’t have anything to do for a while, but they’re afraid they might binge, they go outside and lay under a tree and try to count all the leaves. It is an impossible task, but it is good to keep your mind off of food. And maybe looking at the leaves will make you just want to have a salad instead.  Warning: probably not a good tip for someone with OCD.
  • Read up on how to stop binge eating, if you do it long enough the impulses will pass and you won't want to eat anymore, immediately start working out, you really won't want to eat after all that hard work! It will also make it easier to take nap/go to sleep to keep more binging behaviours arising that day.
  • For every day you binge, it sets you back from your goal by a WEEK! So sit down and really think to yourself do you want to eat?

IF YOU MUST BINGE TIPS

  • Start your binges out on negative cal foods, this way your body eats those up first and give you a chance to purge the other stuff.
  • If you do not like to throw up, simply binge on negative calorie foods, no  neg. cal foods? Then make sure you only binge on veggies and fruits high in fiber. These are the easiest calories to burn and they will not be stored as fat if you do not get them all off but instead burned as energy or will be burned while you sleep.
  • Feel a binge coming on? Work out first! Get exercises in that boost metabolism, then eat as your metabolism will burn the calories before they can be stored as fat, again make sure if you binge, binge on healthy low calorie. Just because all you had one day was a 100 calorie pop tart does not mean you are going to lose weight because those 100 calories will be stored as fat, every last one!
  • If you puke:  Drink ‘smart water’, it is fortified w/ electrolytes, which is what you lose when you puke
This is not to say binging is OK, or that you should do this every time you want to binge! But again like I said, every once in a while is OK (like once or twice a month) as it will trick your body and shock it out of starvation mode and allow you to effectively lose weight again.
